Our new Cat Hospital - NOW OPEN!!
This week saw the opening of Soi Dog's new Cat Hospital!
Soi Dog's new Jeanne Marchig Cat Hospital is now complete and already the first occupants are enjoying what is probably the best cat facility in Thailand! With its own operating theatre, 3 separate cat suites, and 2 separate outside runs, the hospital has been made possible by a generous donation from the Jeanne Marchig Trust. The American school of the Hague in the Netherlands 5th graders have also been fund raising for the past 2 years, and have funded the equipment and furnishings.

Previously cats have had to be kept in small cages, often surrounded by dogs, and the new facility will help to reduce stress and promote rapid healing for injured cats. From what we've witnessed so far, the cats are thoroughly enjoying their new surroundings & we hope to bring you more photos & videos as more cats arrive.

For all our Sponsors...
Meet the Residents of A2!
Ever wondered how your sponsored dog is getting along?
This month There are currently 17 resident dogs in the A2 Run. Phuket has experienced torrential rain recently so our photo shoot had to be taken on a wet, miserable afternoon. Thai dogs are unacustomed to cooler weather & it seems to send them off to sleep! We had benches crowded with sleeping dogs, all curled up to keep dry & warm.
The currrent residents are: Tina, Bobby, Yai, Cini, Twix, Flash Gordon, Cosmo, Tim, Catch, Nina, Dam Dam, Dak, Monti, Licker, Faust, Makork & Sandy.
There's a few very shy dogs in this run - Sandy, Flash Gordon, Makork & Twix, as well as some complete show offs like Licker & Bobby! Licker never lets up, he grabs your hand when you enter & wants you all to himself.
The comedians of this run are Monti who dives about on his 3 legs without a care in the world & Bobby who loves a good chew on the wooden benches!

Overseas Adoption!
Barney flies to Singapore!
Dear little Barney has finally found his forever home in Singapore with his doting new mum, Laura.
Barney was originally found by a concerned member of the public who brought him to Soi Dog. He was extremelly frightened & distressed, his right eye was missing & he also had an infection in his remaining eye & a maggot infestation in his prepuce. After treatment & tender loving care, he totally recovered.
Laura decided to give Barney a wonderful new home in beautiful Singapore! Singapore requires dogs travelling to the country to spend one month in quarantine before being allowed into their new home. Laura drove an hour each way to visit Barney every day during this period. Much to both Laura's & Barney's delight, quarantine finished last week & Barney is now enjoying the comforts of home. Good luck Barney (now called Bertie)!

Local Adoption!
Love at first sight for "Handsome"
Long term resident "Handsome" recently found a home in Phuket with a local expat family.
Choosing a new addition to the family is serious business, so the entire family arrived at the shelter for this important event. It was love at first sight for his new owners when they spotted "Handsome". After a few walks around the Soi Dog gardens & getting to know one another, they decided Handsome was the perfect dog for them. Hansome's new home is in Chalong in a lovely house with a big garden. Perfect for this energetic young dog! We'll miss you beautiful boy, enjoy your new home! Come back & visit us one day soon.

Supporter of the Month Meet.. Rob Costello (San Francisco, USA)
"It is with both awe and admiration that I feel part of the Soi Dog community since 2004 when my partner Mark and I made our first donation following the devastating tsunami.
In 2007, I had the good fortune to be able to volunteer at Soi Dog and was taken back by the situations facing soi dogs in the area. Soi Dog, I realized was the only hope and opportunity for these lovely dogs. For almost a week I bathed and socialized dogs. By the last day I was so smitten with a certain dog, "Ow Nin", and made the decision to adopt and bring her to live in San Francisco. I have since adopted two more Soi Dogs, "Besos" and "Lek", and await the arrival of a fourth in October, the gorgeous "Lai".

My first visit created a intimate bond between Soi Dog and I and sparked a vested commitment to the organization. For the past five years now I have visited and volunteered becoming more embedded in Soi Dog. I cannot count or even estimate the number of dogs I have groomed over the years nor the impact my touch and companionship with the dogs has had on them, but I know every effort (great and small) makes a difference. To help further their mission, Mark and I have set up a non-profit in the US, Soi Dog Foundation USA. My most heartfelt gratitude to all of you who are part of this inspiring work.
Stay amazing,
Rob.

Meet the Soi Dog Staff!
This month meet - Shelter Manager , Regina Telbisz
Reggie first joined Soi Dog last year as a volunteer for 3 months. During that time fell instantly in love with all the dogs, so much so that she decided to accept a full time position & she hasn't looked back. Reggie started as Head Veterinary Surgical Nurse & Volunteer Co-ordinator but was promoted to Shelter Manager in April this year. As Reggie says "private practice is not my cup of tea, I like to use my brain & knowledge & don't like to be told when, why how etc.)" Her position covers all aspects of running the shelter & allows her to make her own decisions & she enjoys the challenge immensely.
Reg lives on site with 4 dogs "Pancake & Veia" (inherited from previous managers) & her own Soi dog "Khang" who's a distemper survivor. She's also currently fostering a tiny puppy. Back in her home country "Hungary", Reggie has two 15 year old red ear sliders (turtles)!
Reggie adds: "my job can be very frustrating at times, but I'm not complaining. I love what I do & unless we help the stray animals they have nobody! Our reward is their recovery. The icing on the cake is when they are adopted to loving homes & we receive feedback from the new families".

Claudia & Fly visit Soi Dog!
A story to make you smile...
Some of our resident dogs are lucky enough to find homes here in Phuket. Claudia & Fly (sisters) were two such dogs, they found a wonderful home back in March this year.
Claudia & Fly's owners recently bought them back to the shelter for a visit & there was none more exicted to see them than their previous Animal Care Assistant - Khun Dow. She looked after the pair for the entire time they spent at the shelter & the threesome were ecstatic to see each other again!
There were smiles all round & a very emotional reunion. The dogs had not seen Khun Dow for over 6 months & obviously remembered the love & kindess she showed them. As they say, "dogs never forget".
Our Animal Care Asisistants spend many hours daily with the dogs in their care. They bath them, administer medication, clean their runs & socialise with the animals every single day. These dogs become their family & from these photos, Khun Dow is obviously still part of Claudia & Fly's.

Dog of the Month - Coffee ... a trusting soul, even after horrific abuse!
Coffee has a tragic story. He arrived at Soi Dog a few months ago after being rescued by a nice Thai lady. Coffee had two very deep injuries caused by a big knife or a machete. We cannot always explain why somebody would hurt a gentle soul like this & we've since learned that UPDATE...
Coffee's previous Thai owner used to hit & kick him. All during his painful treatment by Soi Dog vets, Coffee did not complain once. He is still very trusting in humans & adores the company of people. He is not so keen on other dogs, so preferably we need to find Coffee a home where he can be the center of attention & with people who love & care for him.. If you're interested in adopting Coffee, please email cindy@soidog.org for more information. Our website also has adoption information by region http://www.soidog.org/en/adoptions/adoption-information-by-region
Adoption Update: The dogs featured in our previous two newsletters have found new homes. "Big" featured last month, has found a wonderful home locally in Phuket. "Jet" featured in July, will shortly be flying to the USA to a terrific new home on a big property!
